Fieldin Secures $12M Investment to Fuel Growth

Led by Zeev Ventures, investment will be used to expand company’s all-in-one farm management platform for specialty crop growers
FRESNO, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2019) – Fieldin, which has developed an all-in-one farm management platform that helps specialty crop growers optimize all of their field operations, has secured $12 million in financing to fuel company growth and expand its precision agriculture technology.

The Series A investment was led by Zeev Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based venture fund managed by Oren Zeev, who has backed companies such as Houzz, Audible, Chegg, TripActions, and others that are re-defining their respective industries.

Also participating in the round are Cavallo Ventures, the venture capital arm of Wilbur-Ellis, AgFunder, an online venture capital firm using technology and media to support its investments, and existing investors Germin8 Ventures, Gal Ventures and Terra Venture Partners.

Founded in 2013, Fieldin’s farm management platform seamlessly enables visibility across an operation’s complete range of field data (from tractors, machinery and other in-field sensors) in a single, user-friendly dashboard. This smart farm control center provides managers with actionable data that improves planning, manages risk and maximizes production across all operations and activities. From its award-winning smart spraying module, to its new smart harvesting app, Fieldin’s smart tools have helped transform some of the world’s largest growers into efficient, data-driven operations.

“With the backing and experience of some of the biggest names in Silicon Valley and commercial agriculture, this investment will allow us to put the pedal to the metal and ramp up our innovation and continue to lead the market in both adoption and results,” said Fieldin CEO and Co-Founder Boaz Bachar. “This will allow us to get our data-driven tools in the hands of more growers and stakeholders throughout the supply chain, which will benefit everyone from the boots on the ground to the consumer, and all of the various partners they work with along the way. We look forward to seeing just how far we can take our technology.”

Fieldin’s latest round of funding comes on the heels of rapid revenue growth (more than 300% since the beginning of the year) and customer adoption in the fruit, nuts and vegetable markets.
Fieldin is changing agriculture as we know it,” Zeev said. “The Fieldin team has created a world-class platform that is already the go-to control center for commercial growers. I’m excited to help fuel their growth and be part of this technology revolution we’re experiencing in agriculture.”
The new capital will be used to support the company’s rapid growth: tripling its sales, grower support and technical teams in the U.S., and expanding its R&D team and product development efforts out of its engineering and data science headquarters in Israel.

“It’s been a big year for our company, covering more than 300,000 acres in California alone, and we’re just getting started,” said Fieldin COO and Co-Founder Iftach Birger.

“We’ve been working tirelessly to launch new products before, after and even during the season for our growers. This harvest season, for example, we’re pushing new updates to our platform nearly every day to ensure our growers can optimize every piece of the harvesting process.

“This investment will allow us to move quicker and provide our customers with the technology, ROI and service they’ve come to expect from the Fieldin team.”

The investment is another highlight in a banner year for Fieldin, which recently opened a new office in Fresno and won the 2019 AgFunder Innovation Award in the Farm Tech category for its smart harvesting and spraying technology.

“We like Fieldin’s control center for a number of reasons,” said Amar Singh, Director of Strategic Investments for Cavallo Ventures. “For example, as a grower, how do you know if the agronomic recommendation was carried out as written during a spray event? Whether it’s for spraying, harvesting, or other cultural practices, Fieldin provides the transparency that solidifies trust between a grower and agronomist. Now everyone has objective evidence about what has happened in the field.”

Q&A with Fieldin CEO Boaz Bachar

There are now countless precision ag platforms that promise farmers smarter application of inputs, more accurate planting and harvesting windows, and better management of labor and other resources. But one chief complaint among farmers about agtech is that the creators often don’t understand enough about the day-to-day grind of farming.
Our company was started by growers for growers, so we worked directly with farmers early on to address the pain points they were seeing in the field,” Fieldin CEO Boaz Bachar told AgFunderNews. “It seems like common sense, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard startups talk about growers and farming like a foreign concept. The agriculture industry was here long before we were, and will be here long after.”
Using data analytics and artificial intelligence, FieldIn analyzes geospatial, chemical, biological, weather and other data to help growers plan their pesticide applications and then monitor them in real time to spot any errors in the application. The startup targets commercial-scale fruit, nut, and vegetable growers as well as application subcontractors who produce at least 1,000 acres. Some of their clients have tens of thousands of acres under management.

Fieldin won the Most Innovative US Startup Pre-Series A category for AgFunder’s 2019 Innovation Awards among a shortlist of startups nominated by the award’s committee, a who’s who in agri-foodtech venture capital.

PODCAST: Fieldin Featured on The Modern Acre

Fieldin was featured today on The Modern Acre Podcast, showcasing its smart farming platform for commercial agriculture.

Western Region business development representative Neil Knaak sat down with Modern Acre’s Tim and Tyler Nuss to discuss technology on the farm, and how Fieldin is helping bring transparency and efficiency to various field activities.

“We take equipment in the field and add a layer of technology to it that now adds some clarity to what’s actually happening,” Knaak said.

The trio went on to discuss Fieldin’s service for smart spray management, which cuts down on missed rows, double sprays and ineffective applications (from driving too fast or too slow).

“The question that’s difficult to answer is: How well as that material actually being applied and what was the effect of that spray?” Knaak said. “That’s the gap Fieldin fills in.”

The trio also went on to talk about smart harvesting and tracking other key cultural practices in real time, and how growers are using the platform to improve harvest activities and catch various errors that occur during other field activities.

Fieldin Signs Cooperation Agreement to Help Argentina Growers Fend Off Pests, Disease

FRESNO, Calif. (Jan. 31, 2019) – Fieldin has signed a cooperation agreement with the Estación Experimental Agroindustrial Obispo Colombres (EEAOC) to help protect the Argentina citrus industry from detrimental pests, bacteria and diseases such as Huanglongbing (HLB). According to the agreement, Fieldin will help the EEAOC monitor and analyze real-time data from more than 5,000 pest traps spread throughout Northern Argentina.

Founded in 2013, Fieldin’s smart farming platform helps growers better understand pest pressures, optimize spray applications and other critical farm management activities.

Using proprietary sensors and mobile-friendly software, Fieldin’s technology seamlessly connects in-field sensors, tractors and machinery to provide managers with actionable data that improves production, transparency and efficiency in the field.

“We’re excited to work with the EEAOC and the growers in Argentina to help prevent the spread of HLB and other threats to the citrus industry,” said Fieldin CEO and Co-Founder Boaz Bachar. “We’ve seen first-hand what invasive species and disease can do to the citrus industry in other regions, and it’s crucial that we leverage real-time field data to get ahead of these issues.”

Bachar, along with Fieldin’s Argentina team, signed the agreement last month in a meeting with EEAOC Technical Director Daniel Plopper in Argentina.

The EEAOC is an autarchic entity in the area of the Ministry of Productive Development of the Government of Tucumán, with a goal of helping advance technology and production in the province’s agriculture industry. Its citrus program aims to improve production for citrus farms by controlling the pests and diseases that affect production and international exports.

“We look forward to working closely with the EEAOC to build forward-thinking solutions for the citrus industry,” said Fieldin COO and Co-Founder Iftach Birger, who first met with the EEAOC on its visit to Israel last year to seek out innovative solutions in the agtech industry.

“It’s refreshing to see a government body move as swiftly as the EEAOC did to help its growers in the fight against HLB and other diseases and pests,” Birger added. “For a lot of these diseases, there is no known cure once trees become infected. So we have to do everything in our power to help identify issues in real-time and prevent the damage from spreading. That’s the power of real-time field data in agriculture.”
